Part 1 of Story

The day was growing late and Luciano was needed back at the ranch. Brisngr was enjoying his day at the beach. The stallion had spent some time sleeping and had rolled so many times that Luciano had lost count. The sky had cleared up and now only a few wispy clouds swooped across the sky. Luciano had been up since very early in the morning and his exhaustion was catching up to him. The stallion also needed his dinner earlier since he had not gotten lunch. Luciano had climbed down from the fence post and was lying in the sand. Earlier he had played with Brisingr in the water. The ocean was cold this time of year, but it wasn’t unpleasantly freezing.

The sun had warmed the top of the water and made it more pleasant to be in. Luciano had splashed the stallion a bit before Brisingr decided he had enough and trotted a ways off. Surprisingly no one had come down to the beach since the pair had been there. Luciano unwrapped the sandwich he had packed for himself. Brisingr had found some washed up seaweed and was sniffing it. The horse crinkled his nose and snorted causing sand flies to rise up from the seaweed. The stallion snorted again and took an experimental nibble from the top of the seaweed. The horse had the plant in his mouth for all of three seconds before deciding that seaweed was definitely not his thing. Luciano laughed as the stallion attempted to spit out the seaweed.

Luciano finished his sandwich and lay back on the sand to look up at the sky as the sun begin to fall from its post in the sky. The sky was glowing orange and the clouds were becoming wispy and sun-tinged. The day had turned out more pleasant than Luciano originally thought it was going to turn out. A small ocean breeze blew across the waves still but it was pleasant and carried a calming ocean scent with it. Luciano breathed in deep and stared up at the beautiful sky.

Farther down the beach Brisingr had taken it upon himself to explore every nook he could find. The sun was burning bright and hot as it began its slow decent towards the ocean. The stallion was seeking some shade to escape from the parching blaze. As the stallion walked along the length of the beach he scanned the landscape for any shade. Upon turning a corner he came upon what appeared to be a large ocean cave. Cold air leaked from the cave and wisped around the stallion. The inside of the cave was illuminated due to the position of the sun. Brisingr took a couple steps forward until he was looking into the cave.

The stallion snorted and smelled the air. All Brisingr could smell was ocean. The cool air beckoned him forward and the stallion took a few steps, stopped and listened. There was nothing in the cave. Satisfied that the cave was safe Brisingr strode forward feeling the cool air encompass his entire body.
